Gun Control Activist David Hogg Elected Vice-Chair of DNC

David Hogg, a vehement gun control proponent, has been elected as the Democrat National Committee’s (DNC) Vice Chair on Saturday.

Hogg won his bid to become one of three vice chairs in the fourth round of voting.

“Who’s ready to take the fight to the Republicans and win this thing? Are you guys ready to fight? It’s been a long day, but guess what? We have a long road ahead,” Hogg said in his short victory speech.

“Let’s go and kick some ass. Let’s go win our young people back, and let’s stop sending just our thoughts and prayers to address gun violence and do something.”

24-year-old Hogg became an anti-gun activist and co-founder of the March for Our Lives following the 2018 Parkland school shooting in Florida that killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

During his nomination speech, Hogg pointed to his gun control activism as his reason for running for vice chair.

“After Parkland, our country was in a similar moment where we had a Republican trifecta in Washington, and we as students were told it wasn’t going to be possible for us to create change by many of the same pollsters, pundits, and consultants I’ve heard you all complain about with me on the phone,” Hogg said.

“But guess what? We didn’t listen to them, and that’s why we won,” he continued. “In a Republican state, we said we are going to take on the NRA. And guess what? We won. We raised the age to buy a gun in Florida to 21.”

Hogg is the first Gen Z candidate to assume a leadership position in the DNC

“I’m one of the youngest people ever to run for this role,” he told the Black Caucus on Friday evening. “I am the only person in this race that is under the age of 30 from any of the positions that are out there. We need to make sure that we’re supporting our young people. That’s just what I’ve done.”

Ken Martin, Minnesota’s party leader, also won the race for DNC Chair.

The diversity-obsessed Democrats just elected two white guys to lead their party.
