The Walt Disney Company’s all-out support of the LGBTQ movement has proved costly as seven in 10 Americans said they no longer want to do business with Mickey Mouse and the gang. Many parents also said they will seek out family-friendly alternatives.
Latest data showed 68.2 percent of the voters are now less likely to do business with Disney, with 57.2 of those much less likely to buy from the entertainment giant known for its kid-friendly parks and movies. Moreover, 69 percent said they are likely to support family-friendly alternatives to Disney.
The survey from the Convention of States Action, in partnership with The Trafalgar Group, also found that the concerns regarding Disney’s plan to create related content had been bipartisan, with 48.2 percent of Democrats saying they are less likely to do business with the House of Mouse.
This poll follows several reports that Disney is open to exploring sexual issues and LGBTQ characters in its products.
Earlier this week, a key Disney heir revealed that his child is transgender, and the firm’s CEO said that she is the mother of two queer children – one transgender and one pansexual child.
In a fundraising letter to the Human Rights Fund, Roy Disney blasted Florida’s new LGBTQ law, which has prompted a focus on gay rights.
“We were heartbroken when Ron DeSantis signed the ‘Don’t Say Gay or Trans’ law in Florida. The fight isn’t over, and we are determined to do everything we can to stop this from happening in other places,” Disney wrote.
The law, however, did not say anywhere that it is against the LGBTQ community. It merely barred classroom instruction on sexual orientation or gender identity for children below third grade, in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.
Disney’s “woke” stance turns off parents
Mark Meckler, president of the Convention of States Action, said: “These numbers reveal clearly that 2022’s parent’s revolt movement is growing stronger every day. Parents are infuriated by the widespread leftists’ assault on their kids. Disney is about to learn that attempting to ideologically and sexually groom our children is a recipe for brand destruction, costing the company massively in both customers and revenue.”
Meckler also mentioned that parents have been actively seeking family-friendly alternatives to Disney which is good news for people at The Daily Wire Kids at Angel Studios and for other creators looking to capitalize on a massive marketplace opportunity that can provide more than two-thirds of parents the family-friendly choices that they’re looking for.
New York Post columnist Karol Markowicz, B.E.S.T. Executive Director Laura Zorc and Heroes of Liberty Editor Bethany Mandel all spoke out against Disney’s stance on the matter, warning the company that it is making a mistake.
“They’re opposing parents who are their core consumers with their opposition to this Florida law,” Markowicz said. “This isn’t difficult. Leave the kids alone. They shouldn’t be indoctrinated by Mickey Mouse. Let them be kids. Disney used to understand that.”
In response to Disney’s move, Zorc said that she and her husband deleted their Disney+ account and opted out of taking their children to the theme park for spring break.
“As parents, that’s how we can stand up against this woke agenda that Disney has for our families,” she said.
Quisha King, a Florida mom and co-founder of “Moms for Liberty,” also said she is supporting Florida’s new law, arguing that it empowers parents within the sphere of their kids’ education.
“This is a real bill that empowers parents. It protects our kids. They [Disney executives] only started doing this because woke mob came after them,” she said. “Why is the bill to die to have transgenderism injected in a kindergarten classroom?”
