Official stonewalls on role FBI asset Ray Epps played in spurring violence and convincing protesters to enter Capitol building.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) took an uncooperative FBI official to task Tuesday during cross examination on the Democrats’ January 6 show trials when asking about the FBI’s involvement in inciting illegal activity at the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Cruz grilled FBI Executive Assistant Director Jill Sanborn about the bureau’s role in precipitating the event as the Capitol, but Sanborn refused to provided any substantive answers.
“I want to turn to the FBI,” Cruz said. “How many FBI agents or confidential informants actively participated in the events of January 6th?”
“Sir? I’m sure you can appreciate that I can’t go into the specifics of sources and methods,” Sanborn replied bluntly.
Cruz continued: “Did any FBI agents or confidential informants actively participate in the events of January 6th? Yes or no? January 6th?”
“No, sir,” Sanborn responded. “I can’t, I can’t answer that.”
“Did any FBI agents or confidential informants commit crimes of violence on January 6th?” Cruz went on.
“I can’t answer that, sir,” she replied.
“Did any FBI agents or FBI informants actively encourage and incite crimes of violence on January 6th?” he pressed.
“Sir, I can’t answer that,” Sanborn replied again.
Cruz then moved onto FBI asset Ray Epps: “Ms. Sanborn. Who is Ray Epps?”
“Yeah, I’m aware of the individual, sir,” Sanborn replied. “I don’t have the specific background to him.”
“Well, there are a lot of people who are understandably, very concerned about Mr. Epps,” Cruz zaid. “On the night of January 5th, 2021, Epps wandered around the crowd that had gathered and there’s video out there of him chanting, ‘Tomorrow, we need to get into the capital, into the capital.’ This was strange behavior. So strange that the crowd began chanting ‘Fed, Fed, Fed, Fed, Fed. Fed.’ Ms. Sandburn, was Ray Epps a Fed?”
“Sir,” she replied. “I cannot answer that question.”
Cruz went on: “The next day, the next day on January 6th, Mr. Epps is seen whispering to a person. And five seconds later, five seconds after he is whispering to a person, that same person begins to forcibly tear down the barricades. Did Mr. Epps urge them to tear down the barricades?”
“Sir,” the FBI official replied. “Similar to the other answers, I cannot answer that.”
Numerous video clips clearly show Ray Epps encouraging protesters to breach the Capitol building and engage in violent behavior during the Stop The Steal demonstration.
A scathing report by Revolver News also shows how the FBI went to great lengths to shield Epps and many other FBI assets involved in the events of January 6 from scrutiny.
Alarmingly, a year after the Jan. 6 events, the FBI still has not identified the individual who supposedly planted two pipe bombs outside the Democratic National Committee and Republican National Committee buildings the night before the fateful protest.
The FBI is likely preoccupied with persecuting the nonviolent demonstrators who entered the Capitol building and intimidating parents speaking out against critical race theory and LGBT indoctrination in schools.
