Democrat operatives insist raid is not a raid as public turns against FBI’s unprecedented move against 45th president.
Meanwhile, former Obama adviser, Clinton lawyer, and MSNBC and CNN pundits celebrating what they call a “raid” against Trump.
Democrat political operatives are scrambling to redefine words again as the public sours against the FBI’s pre-dawn Monday raid on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago compound.
Mainstream media reporters and Democrat insiders on Twitter correctly characterized the FBI’s unprecedented actions against Trump as a “raid,” including MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell, CNN’s Rick Wilson, former Clinton lawyer Marc Elias, and former Obama adviser David Axelrod.
But they apparently didn’t get the memo not to call the raid a raid after the resulting condemnation by both Republicans and some Democrats of the FBI’s raid prompted critics to push back against the term.
VP Kamala Harris’ former aide Symone Sanders pleaded to fellow Democrats not to call the FBI’s raid a “raid.”
Democratic Georgia state Rep. Erick Allen wrote, “To be clear, a lawful execution of a search warrant is NOT A RAID. TFG is not a victim.”
Former US Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama Joyce Alene wrote, “We don’t know yet what crimes the FBI had sufficient evidence of to convince a federal judge there was probable cause to search Trump’s residence, but the execution of a search warrant isn’t a raid.”
“PBS News Weekend” anchor Geoff Bennett wrote, “It’s a ‘search,’ not a ‘raid.’”
Brookings Institute senior fellow Benjamin Wittes tweeted, “A court-authorized search is not a raid.”
Journalist Stephen Fowler argued, “The FBI search warrant has to undergo a lot of steps – including a federal judge – to be signed off on. So it’s not a ‘raid’ or ‘siege’ like Trump implies.”
Democrat political commentator David Weissman wrote, “This was not a raid. Merrick Garland had a legal search warrant to search Mar A Lago. No one is above the law.”
Dozens of FBI agents stormed the Mar-a-Lago compound in the pre-dawn hours of Monday morning while Trump was in New York City, taking 15 boxes of documents without properly identifying their contents and even breaking into Trump’s safe.
