President Trump is expected to sign executive orders today prohibiting transgender people from serving in the military and eliminating diversity, equity and inclusivity (DEI) programs from the military.

On his first day in office, President Trump signed an executive order revoking the Biden administration’s directive, issued in 2021, to allow transgender personnel to serve openly in the US military. This new executive order, and others, is expected to go much further.

The first Trump administration pursued a ban on transgender military personnel in 2018, but this was reversed by President Biden in 2021.

It is expected that new executive orders will lay down hard rules about pronouns and gender identity, as well as directly prohibiting transgender people from serving, on the basis of mental and physical health.

“Unit cohesion requires high levels of integrity and stability among service members,” a White House document obtained by The New York Post says.

The document continues: there can be “no accommodation for anything less than resilience, strength, and the ability to withstand extraordinary physical demands.”

“Individuals who are unable to meet these requirements are unable to serve in the military. This has been the case for decades.”

The document notes that individuals who undergo gender reassignment therapy can be out of action for well over a year, hampering preparedness and draining valuable resources.

“It can take a minimum of 12 months for an individual to complete treatments after transition surgery, which often involves the use of heavy narcotics. During this period, they are not physically capable of meeting military readiness requirements and require ongoing medical care. This is not conducive for deployment or other readiness requirements.”

Other documents obtained by The Post show that “invented and identification-based pronouns” will be banned; biological men and women will be prevented from using facilities intended for the opposite sex, including toilets and bedrooms; and standards across the board will be updated to “prioritize readiness and lethality.”

All DEI programs, criticized as a “woke assault” on the military, will be brought to an end. All bureaucratic bodies devoted to DEI will be dismantled and all teaching curricula will be reviewed.

“Today’s Order moves our military away from this dark period and renews esprit de corps, readiness, and focus. It returns the Pentagon to the warfighter,” the document regarding the DEI order says.

“This Order also combats ideologies that seek to divide our Armed Forces by race, sex or other immutable characteristics and thus tear at cohesion and military efficacy.”

The new Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth, has vowed to overhaul the military, so that it can focus on deterrence and effectiveness at home and abroad, with an eye to the growing threat from China.

“All of this will be done with a focus on lethality, meritocracy, accountability, standards, and readiness,” Hegseth wrote in a statement issued on Saturday.
