We have seen time and time again. A person is simply standing in a public place, with a camera, and before you know it there is a cop in front of them asking for the cops favorite drug- I.D.!
The cop tells the person that they are being detained for “being suspicious”. They start demanding the persons I.D. and they act as if refusing to show I.D. is a crime. If the cop cannot articulate what crime the person is committing then the person does not have to produce an I.D.
The reason a cop wants that I.D. so bad isn’t because he suspects that a crime is being committed. He wants it so that he can run the person through N.C.I.C. and check them for wants and warrants. That way, if something comes back on the person then he just got an easy arrest.
What people need to start asking these cops is “how does getting my I.D. determine if I have committed a crime?”. The cop is not going to answer that directly or tell the person that they want to run their name. They are going to keep going in circles, but at least you’ve gotten it on record that you asked how getting the I.D. will determine if a crime is being committed.
In the video below, from “Here’s The Deal”, watch how many times this cop asks for a mans I.D. when the man is simply on a sidewalk recording whatever his eyes can see. The cop cannot articulate any solid proof that this man is committing any crime, but he’s just got to have that I.D.!
