Most people think that the first ones to call when they need help are law enforcement. That is what we have all been taught for the majority of our lives. We are told to put our upmost trust in these people wearing guns, cuffs, tazers, and other weapons. We are taught that they are here to “help” us not “hurt” us and certainly not to “kill” us. Killing other people are what criminals do, right?
On July 6, 2024 Sonya Massey thought she heard someone outside of her home. She called the Sangamon County Sheriff’s office via 911 to ask for help. The two deputies arrived at the ladies home and checked outside around the home and didn’t see anyone. They then make contact with her at the door. One of the first things Sonya Massey says to the deputies is “please don’t hurt me”. One of them responds with “why would we hurt you?”. The deputies tell her that they don’t see anything around her home. That should have been the end of this call, but they start asking her about her car and why did it take so long for her to come to the door.
They then make their way into her home and start looking around and then asking her for her I.D. By this time, anyone watching the body cam footage, can clearly see that she is under some mental distress and not clearly thinking. A professional law enforcer that genuinely wants to help others would have shown compassion to this lady. Instead they keep pushing her for her information. She has some water on her stove that she was heating and Deputy Sean Grayson tells the other deputy to check on it. The women gets up to go over to the water and turns off the stove and appears to be placing the pot in the sink. The deputy moved back quick when she walked over to the stove. She asks him why did he jump back and he responds with something along the line of “you’ve got a pot of steaming water”.
It’s at this moment that the lady says “I rebuke you in the name of Jesus”. This immediately seems to set off Deputy Sean Grayson, for he says “you better not, I swear to God I will shoot you in your fucking face!”. He then pulls his firearm and starts yelling “drop the pot”. Sonya Massey says “I’m sorry” as she puts her hands up and drops to the floor. There is a counter separating the lady from the deputies and Deputy Grayson advances toward Sonya Massey. going around the counter. He then fires his weapon shooting her directly in the head killing her. Right after the shooting, the other deputy says that he is going to get the med kit. Grayson says “don’t bother, it was a head shot”. He also can be heard saying “just let her…” He catches himself before he lets the words come out.
This lady just had her life taken away by the ones that swore an oath to protect her. She was no threat to the deputies at all. Deputy Sean Grayson clearly showed that he had no love for life, no respect for those with mental issues, and he demonstrated how dangerous people can be that do not need to be cops. Sean Grayson has been “shuffled around” to at least six agencies during his law enforcement career. This psychopath needs to be locked up for the rest of his life for what he did to Sonya Massey and her family.
